Reiner Knizia Does it Again with FITS

FITS from Ravensburger games, one of the largest Puzzle and Boardgame companies in Europe, has brought together elements of Tetris and Blokus and make a fantastic game that is perfectly playable for 1 to 4 players and with the recent surge of interest in solitaire games that makes FITS the perfect fit for most families. Game designer phenomenon Reiner Knizia brings together spacial awareness and luck of the draw into a game that is infinitely re-playable and great for most all ages.

I recently brought this game home to try out with my roommates, Steff (a human resources manager) and Mike (a Math and Science teacher), both of whom are avid board game players and puzzle fans but who have played mostly traditional board games (they are both killer SCRABBLE players). We sat down and played the first round rather quickly encountering very few rules questions (aside from neglecting to score the first card correctly) and continued to play another game later than night. It was really fun and would have probably been even moreso if we had a fourth player. The nice thing about this game is that there isn't any reason to play it super fast, and each individual turn takes only a minimal amount of time or attention, so it works insanely well as a beer & pretzel game (or in our situation a game that you can play while you are watching a movie), but isn't so simple that if you didn't decide to focus more intently that you couldn't make it a far more serious game. I can honestly say that I had a lot of fun playing this game and that it's feel for manual Tetris combined with everyone's desire to turn a Blokus board into a Tetris competition is really addictive. The game is incredibly well made and the pieces all have a nice feel and heft, the ramps that you play on conveniently store all the pieces as well as the cards that you utilize throughout the game making the game rather well suited to storage and not getting terribly disorganized. I can see this being the kind game that will be fun for families, kids, parties and even travel.
