With the final pages of DC Comics' first issue of Blackest Night #1 I think we all knew we were in for something dark and fantastic. But with the events of the second issue and the ancillary stories starting to show the effects of the first issue I think we can throw any previously held conceptions out the window. Without question Geoff Johns is penning an horror story that just happens to be hidden under the veneer of a super-hero epic. Artist Ivan Reis is also turning in some of the best artwork of his career and the feeling of dread is evident even in his layouts. I think that anyone who thought that this might be the kind of event that you could skip over is going to find themselves completely mistaken.
