Got Comics Questions? Well, you've come to the right place! Better make them good though. Allow at least 48 hours for answers ... I can't always remember to check the thread.

Dear Scotty, why did AWM #19 suck so friggin' much?

October 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJoshua M.

Dear Josh,
Quite simply sir, it didn't. Astounding WolfMan #19 was a brilliant curve ball the likes of which only Robert Kirkman (and perhaps Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax) could have pulled off. The book is speeding ever toward it's end and it was about time that The Face got his comeuppance and at just about the right time.

ALSO: Kirkman finally explained Stone Henge ... what's not totally awesome about that?

My experiences at the fantasy shop have been mostly MTG and board games, the world of comics is new to me but I have already jumped right in. Are there any new story arcs or new stories starting soon that you would recommend? Also are there any personal favorites you would recommend?

Some stuff I have enjoyed are Transmetropolitan, Y the Last Man, Sandman, Punisher:Welcome Back Frank, Kingdom Come, Marvel Civil War, anything batman, DMZ,

Dear Johnny,

Based on what you have stated enjoying thus far Dear Scotty has the following recommendations: Preacher, by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon is a travelogue of the South and a revenge piece against God, it follows Jessie Custer and his best friend (a vampire) and his ex-girlfriend as they rally together to face off against a deity that has forgotten his flock and has little care for their direction anymore, it is widely considered to be one of the best works of Ennis' career and it is incredibly well told. Fables by Bill Willingham (and mostly) Mark Buckingham is the tale of a strange community of living characters from all of our favorite Fairy Tales, fans of Sandman will love this book. Scalped from Jason Aaron and R.M. Guera is a pretty straightforward noir piece like Donny Brasco set on an Indian Reservation and is perhaps one of the best books that Dear Scotty is currently reading. Next week's PUNISHERMAX #1 is from Jason Aaron and Steve Dillon and if you enjoyed Punisher: Welcome Back Frank then it is a pretty strong recommendation as well as Garth Ennis' run on Punisher Max (effectively a different title but for the most part just the same). One of Dear Scotty's recommendations to anyone who is enjoying books like DMZ is to check out Queen & Country from Greg Rucka and various artists which is the brilliant tale of Tara Chace, a British intelligence agent and her many adventures and the deaths of far too many of her colleagues, and recommending that gives me the opportunity to recommend Stumptown #1 also by Greg Rucka with art by Matthew Southworth which just came out today. Any list of recommendations would be incomplete without this final recommendation, Criminal by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips which is one of the best produced comics coming out period, just get it (the Omnibus collection of the first series came out today and the first issue post that collection is still on the shelves). But really this list of recommendations could go on forever and so it's probably better to just recommend that you click on the "ComicDorksCast" tab off to the right and read the articles there as well as subscribe to the podcast.
